This month's story highlight

My name is Helen Hill and I am a volunteer with the Center for Adult Learning (CAL) for the City Library. It's Great! It's a wonderful opportunity to help new immigrant adults, who are trying to learn English better, so they can get better jobs and become part of the American dream.

Only two generations ago someone helped my grandparents learn English, so it's a pleasure and priviledge to do the same for someone else. It is one of the most personally rewarding jobs I have ever done -- and so different from my "day job".

I love people and I love to teach, and mostly it's such a joy to learn about different cultures. Through those differences, I discover more about myself and the big surprise is we all discover how much we really are all the same.

Just one or two eventings a week committment and you'll be hooked just like me!
